Confusing signs vertical

Different kinds of snow make different sounds under your boots.

The dry, powdery snow squeaks almost like sand. If the temperature is hovering around zero, the snow gets a crust and makes a really satisfying crunch with each step.

Everything sounds different. The way people talk is the hardest though. It made it really hard when I first arrived when there were so many things to get a handle on, especially people’s body language and social expectations, that is, what people expect of you, how they expect you to act.

Now that I’ve got all that fairly well memorised I can enjoy the subtler detail of the people and my surroundings. The accents give me something to listen for and think about.
